Savory Meatballs

Turns out meatballs are also a Mexican dish!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lean beef
  • ½ lb ground lean pork
  • ½ lb ground veal
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • ¾ cup minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, minced
  • ½ dried rosemary, crumbled
  • 1 egg
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ teaspoon sage
  • 2 teaspoon chili powder

For Sauce

  • 1 ½ tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 ½ tablespoons minced onion
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • salt and pepper to taste

Procedure

  1. Combine all ingredients for the meatballs, and mix well. Then shape the meat mixture into small balls
  2. For the sauce, heat oil in a heavy casserole, saute onion until light golden, add tomato sauce, broth, sugar, salt and pepper and bring to a simmer. Add the meatballs, cover and cook gently for about 45 minutes.
